Why do I get a "you agree to our use of cookies" notice on the website?

0

Almost every website that allows the functionality to log in to a user account, makes use of "cookies". Cookies are small files that are placed on your computer, so your computer would know that you are logged in on a certain website. This is completely normal, and without cookies you wouldn't be able to log in on any website on the internet at all, including well-known websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google, and so on.

On May 26, 2012, a decision of the European Union concerning the use of cookies came into effect, often referred to as the "EU Cookie Directive". Before that time, it was sufficient to make a webpage available that describes the Privacy Policy, including the usage of cookies, but this is no longer sufficient. According to this new European law, visitors of a website must now be prompted with the choice to accept cookies in order to use the website. Our cookie-notice is therefore in compliance with the EU Cookie Directive. By clicking "Agree", nothing will change that wasn't already there before, but the only way not to agree is by surfing away from our website, as it will not be possible to use most of its features without the use of cookies.
