“Yes, I Want To Be A Druid!!!”
“Ok, I want to be a Druid but where do I start? What do I do first?”
Well, now that you’ve found the new Order of Druids (N.O.D) you’ve already taken the first step towards being a Druid! Here you will find all the information you will need on the Druids of the past (our Celtic ancestors) and the Druids of today (or modern Druids as we are sometimes called).
We also have a free online Druid college course; The Bardic Youth Course – Entering The Forest where you can learn about life in the Celtic tribes, the roles of the Bard and Druid, Celtic virtues and Celtic art, mythology, observing the Celtic festivals through the changing seasons and much more!
On this part of the N.O.D website you will also find quizzes to test your knowledge (and have fun) and also our Young Druids forum. Yes – you have your very own forum packed with lots of fun things as well as more (yes more) information on many topics.
“I don’t know what my parents and friends will think of it…what should I do?”
This is a very good question but one that has a simple answer really. The most important thing you can do is to show a good example if you want the approval of those that matter most to you. To do this it is best not to go for the ‘dress to shock’ approach. Gothic style heavy black eye makeup and black fingernails give out warning signals to parents and tell them you’re in way over your head. (these are parents after all!).
If you strive to act with honour and integrity, your parents are more inclined to be receptive, and by observing your behaviour, should overcome their first fears of thinking we Druids go out in the middle of the night and get up to all kinds of evil! Maybe you could start recycling (if you don’t already) and mention Nature in conversation; how awful it is that trees are just torn up without any thought about the future of the environment etc.
By sending out the right signals, you stand a better chance of gaining the understanding and dare I say it…approval of your parents and friends. Also at the N.O.D we have a downloadable ‘letter to parents’ which explains what we Druids are and what we REALLY do and this can be printed out to show parents. We aim to give support to all who need it here at the N.O.D and we hope you’ll decide to stick around!
