LONDON Yesterday, Barack Obama has arrived in London for his first visit to Europe during his presidency of the United States of America. His main reason for this visit to the Old Continent is the G20, but will also include an unexpected spiritual aspect.
On March 17, St. Patrick's Day, Obama had contacted the New Order of Druids with the request to be inaugurated as a Druid. It is well known now that his roots on his mother's side can be traced back to medieval Ireland and Scotland, which makes his Celtic ancestry more than likely. It is believed that this link to Ireland is what sparked his interest in a Druid inauguration, but the US President has not yet made an official statement on this matter.
Most interestingly, however, Barack Obama has not chosen to be inaugurated by an Irish or British Druid organisation, but rather by the New Order of Druids. He has asked to keep his request in confidence, so that it would not damage his reputation as president among the majority of Christians of his country. But with the ceremony approaching rapidly now, he has chosen to make it public knowledge.
Barack Obama will be inaugurated tonight at 7pm in London by the New Order of Druids. Council member Kirsten Ellis has travelled southwards from Yorkshire to attend this historical moment for both the US and for the New Order of Druids, and David Dom will come over from Belgium to preside over the ceremony itself. It is expected that Jason Kirkey, a US poet, will perform a reading of his poetry especially written for this occasion.
The inauguration will take place in private surroundings for security reasons, but approval is given to BBC, CNN and CNCB to broadcast the event live.
After a long period of downtimes of our chat server, we are happy to announce that the chatroom is easily reachable again for visitors and members! You can visit our chatroom in the following ways:
If you have an IRC client program such as "mIRC" then use the following commands:
/server irc.druidcircle.net
/join #NOD
Aside from IRC.DRUIDCIRCLE.NET, you can also use IRC.DRUIDCIRCLE.ORG or IRC.SORCERY.NET.
Until recently, the chatroom was hosted by the separate IRC.DRUIDCIRCLE.NET server, but for particular reasons this server has been down for several weeks. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused, and even though we had a backup server available to locate the chatroom upon, we understand that it was not obvious for everyone to find it.
For that reason we have decided not to wait any longer, but make the IRC.SORCERY.NET network the new permanent home of our chatroom. This means that you can connect to IRC.SORCERY.NET directly, or you can still connect to IRC.DRUIDCIRCLE.NET (or .ORG) which are now also directly linked to the Sorcery IRC Network. This is a network of several stable servers, making sure that the chatroom will almost never be down - if one server does happen to go offline then all the others will step in.
We invite you to visit our chatroom whenever it pleases you, and we hope to welcome you there soon!
We are proud to announce the launch of a brand new service: NODCast, the Podcast of the New Order of Druids!
A podcast is a series of audio files on the internet, made available to listen to or to download through syndication, such as Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers. There exist many podcasts out there on the net already, and we figured we shouldn't stay behind but add our own stone to the pool!
You can listen to the NODCast editions entirely for free, whether you're a member or not, and we intend to add new editions on a regular basis. The NODCast editor is Council member Maya, who has released the very first edition today!
We are happy to announce, that the Bardic Course and Ovate Course of the Grove of Dana online college, are now also available in book form!
Our thanks goes out to Jason Kirkey in particular, for writing the coursework and giving permission to the New Order of Druids for printing it in book form and making it available in our online shop.
You can buy the Bardic Course and Ovate Course books in our online shop right now, for only $15 USD per book! Click the images below for more information about each book.
If you have an account on Myspace.com and you didn't already receive a "Friends Invite", then just send an invite to us on that account, so that we can add you!
If you have a Myspace account and add the NOD profile to your friends, you will have the advantage of automatically being updated about any important news through that way as well. It is our intention to add similar profiles to other similar networking communities as well, such as Facebook and Yuwie, and we will inform you when those profiles become available as well!
The New Order of Druids is a non-profit organisation ran only by volunteers. As to be able to cover our expenses, we welcome any amount of donation you are prepared to give, so that this organisation may continue to exist for everyone.
